why doesn’t freeware softwares cost any money?
there are so many freewares available in cd’s and on internet.. many of this we can use for ever.. but how does the makers or publisher’s of these freewares earns money..? whats the catch? why are they providing this free service?
any good answers?

There are many ways a freeware provider can be interested in offering their software for free. Many times offering free software creates advertisement revenue for the provider or website that is being utilized. In other words, it’s not so much about getting money for the software as it is about getting you to come back to them for other things they offer. Many times, freeware (or shareware) will only give you a limited edition of the software with certain features missing or locked out so you can sample it and buy it later if you want. It all depends on the intentions of the provider. Freeware is usually small and simple. It acts better as a way to get their name out there and get you coming back for more. The exception to this would be open source software which is also usually free. In this case, the software can be big and do important jobs, but the difference is that because it is open source (i.e. many programmers are working on it voluntarily), the programmers have an individual interest in offering the software for free. For example, I use a compiler than is open source software. It can be added to by any programmer that is approved for the project and I can keep downloading upgrades at no cost. The providers offer this software because they want people to have a viable alternative to the often times very expensive compilers out there that don’t do their job much better than a free program would. So in this case, everybody wins because I get the software for free, and nobody had to work long hard hours since they all put in the time voluntarily. Does this help?
